Dates and Prices
Your Trip Itinerary
This itinerary suits travelers who want to spend the winter in Portugal, with the city first and the coast for the rest of the month. This 29-night stay starts with 4 nights in Lisbon, for Alfama, Belém and a day in Sintra. Then drive about 3 hours south for 24 nights in the Algarve, with mild winter days, the cliffs of Lagos, the Benagil caves, and the Vicentina Coast nearby. The trip ends with 1 last night in Lisbon, so you fly home from the airport where you landed, which helps keep the price lower. All flights, hotels and a rental car for the whole stay are included.

Welcome to Portugal! Collect your rental car at Lisbon airport and check in to your hotel in Lisbon. You have 4 nights here before driving south to the Algarve.
Suggestion for the day: A First Look at Lisbon

Frequently Asked Questions
This Portugal Getaways package includes 29 nights: 4 in Lisbon, 24 in the Algarve and 1 last night in Lisbon. Included are all flights, a hotel in Lisbon, extended-stay accommodations with a kitchenette in the Algarve, a rental car for the whole stay, an expert trip manager and taxes and fees related to booking. Meals, guided tours and city taxes are not included, and there are no airport transfers, because you pick up your rental car on arrival.
You land in Lisbon and spend 4 nights there, then drive about 3 hours south to the Algarve for 24 nights. The trip ends with 1 last night in Lisbon. Flying home from the airport where you arrived is usually cheaper than flying out of Faro, and the rental car goes back where you picked it up, with no one-way fee. It also means you don't drive on the day of your flight (just to the airport).
Yes, round-trip flights are included. Other departure cities are available on the package page, and additional options are available on request, so contact the Portugal Getaways team before you book. Seat selection, extra baggage and cabin upgrades are not included but can be arranged as paid add-ons, subject to availability. Checked luggage is not always included: it depends on the airline and fare type, and for a month-long stay you will likely need a checked bag. You can confirm what is included and add luggage during the booking process.
The Lisbon nights are in a hotel. In the Algarve, the 24 nights are in aparthotels or resort-style accommodations selected for longer stays, each with a kitchenette, from village-style complexes to beachfront suites and resort apartments. Exact properties are shown when you click a date and move to the next step. Upgrade options are available on request, and the package price varies with the property selected.
Parking is available on-site at all the accommodations in Lisbon and the Algarve, but it is not included in the package price and costs vary, so check your property's details on the next step, or ask the Portugal Getaways team to help you prioritize one with free parking.
A rental car is included for the whole stay. You pick it up at Lisbon airport when you arrive and return it there on your last day. The standard vehicle is a compact or economy car, and an automatic transmission or a larger vehicle is available on request at an additional cost, subject to availability. You need a valid driver's license, and some rental companies ask that you have held it for 1 or 2 years. For visitors from outside the EU, an International Driving Permit is recommended, especially if your license is not in Portuguese or English. Parking in central Lisbon is limited, so the car is most useful in the Algarve.
The rental includes basic third-party liability insurance, and depending on the car rental company, a collision damage waiver (CDW) may already be included. Even with CDW, most rentals have a mandatory excess, which is the amount you pay out of pocket if the car is damaged. We always recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level available. This can be arranged through the Portugal Getaways team when you book with an agent.
Tolls are not included. Portugal has toll roads, including the A2 motorway between Lisbon and the Algarve, and the rental company will explain how its electronic toll device works. Portugal uses the Via Verde toll system, and before your trip you will receive from us a travel checklist that includes a link to a Via Verde calculator tool.
Gas stations are easy to find along motorways and in towns, and are fewer in rural areas, so refuel before long drives, but you should not have any trouble.
Meals are not included. In the Algarve every property has a kitchenette, so you can shop at local markets and supermarkets and cook when you prefer. Day-to-day living costs in the Algarve are one of the reasons this package works well as a winter base.
Daily breakfast is not included by default, but it can be added during the booking process if available, or you can contact the Portugal Getaways team to prioritize it.
City taxes are not included and are paid directly at the accommodation when they apply. Under current Portuguese law, city taxes are charged for a maximum of 7 consecutive nights, so you will not pay them for all 29 nights. The taxes and fees related to booking are part of your Portugal Getaways package price.
Yes. With the rental car, southern and central Portugal are within reach. From Lisbon, popular day trips are Sintra, Óbidos, Fátima, Nazaré, Batalha and Alcobaça. From the Algarve, you can reach Lagos and Ponta da Piedade, the Benagil caves by boat, Sagres, Faro, Tavira, Silves, Monchique and Évora (about 2 hours 30 minutes). All day trips are suggestions and carry an additional cost unless stated. Optional guided experiences can be added when you book.
Yes. Both are popular day trips from the Algarve. Seville is approximately a 2.5-hour drive and can be done independently by car or on a guided bus tour. Tangier in Morocco is reachable by ferry from Tarifa in Spain, roughly 2.5 to 3 hours from the Algarve. Both can be added as optional experiences. If you plan to drive to Spain, note that cross-border fees apply and should be confirmed with the rental company in advance. Contact the Portugal Getaways team and we will include the right option in your quote.
Yes. The Algarve part of this package is designed for travelers who want to settle in rather than move around: 24 nights in one property, a car for daily independence and a kitchenette for flexibility. The Algarve has reliable internet coverage, mild winter temperatures averaging 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F) and a relaxed pace outside peak season. Whether you are working remotely or simply escaping winter, the setup is the same.
The long-stay format suits October to March particularly well: temperatures stay between 14°C and 20°C (57°F to 68°F), crowds are minimal and prices are lower. The almond trees bloom in January and February. Spring (April to May) brings wildflowers and around 20°C (68°F), with the start of the beach season. Summer (June to August) reaches 30°C (86°F) and the coast is at its busiest and significantly more expensive. In winter, Lisbon is cooler and rainier than the Algarve.
Yes. The Portugal Getaways team can extend the stay to 6 weeks, 2 months or longer, depending on availability at your chosen property, and can add nights in Porto or Madeira, or change how the nights are split between Lisbon and the Algarve. Contact the team with your preferred dates and we will check what is possible. Additional costs apply.
Yes, the package price is based on two travelers sharing a room, so solo travelers pay a single supplement. Contact the Portugal Getaways team directly and we'll make it easy. You can also check solo pricing by changing guests from 2 to 1 in the booking calendar before clicking See Dates and Prices.
Yes. Portugal is consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in Europe for travelers, with low crime and no active conflicts. The main risks are petty theft in busy areas, such as Lisbon's tourist districts, and weather and sea conditions on the coast. It's the traveler's responsibility to check their government's travel advisory before departure.
Portugal is part of the Schengen Area. US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. We recommend a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
ETIAS is not yet required and the EU has not confirmed a start date. When it becomes active, the Portugal Getaways team will notify you, and it remains the traveler's responsibility to check the current rules and complete every requirement on time.
⚠️ Please note that if your itinerary includes a transit or layover in the United Kingdom, you will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travel. Entry requirements can change, and it is the traveler's responsibility to verify current visa, passport, and transit requirements before departure through their government's official travel advisory website.
This package has no deposit option: the total price is paid in full when you book. Contact the Portugal Getaways team if you have questions about payment before you book or if you'd like to set up an installment payment plan.
Travel insurance is not included but is strongly recommended.
The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your travel date, and a cancellation fee applies. Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued, but the Portugal Getaways team will always check with the airline to explore options. Travel insurance with cancellation cover is strongly recommended, particularly for a month-long stay. This summary does not replace the full terms and conditions of your booking, which we encourage you to read before confirming.
For general support, contact the Portugal Getaways team at our regular number, available every day from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time. Outside those hours, an emergency number is provided in your trip documents. For local emergencies in Portugal, dial 112.
