28 Nights: Two weeks in Funchal, two weeks on the Algarve coast, a car and a kitchenette in both. Your Florida winter, upgraded to Europe.

Dates and Prices
Plan This Trip to Fit Me!
Why This Package Is Worth It

Florida gives you one stop. Portugal gives you two, for close to the same money, and neither needs a hurricane plan.
You land in Funchal, where winter holds steady at 17 to 20°C (63 to 68°F) and your rental car is waiting. Two weeks in an aparthotel with a kitchenette, morning walks on the seafront, and the island at your own pace: Cabo Girão, Curral das Freiras, a different viewpoint every day, all on Madeira's modern roads and tunnels.
Then one easy connection and two more weeks on the Algarve coast, same setup: aparthotel, kitchenette, parking, and a second car right outside. Cook when you feel like it, eat grilled fish by the harbour when you don't, and let the car earn its keep: Silves, Monchique, Sagres, even a day trip to Seville.
Swap one Florida for two: Madeira and the Algarve.

This package is built around winter, and both destinations hold up well in that season. Winter (December to February) in the Algarve brings mild days around 16 to 18°C (61 to 64°F), with quiet coastal towns and the lowest prices of the year. Madeira in winter is notably steady, typically 17 to 20°C (63 to 68°F), which is part of why the island has drawn winter visitors for more than a century. Spring and autumn work well too, with temperatures near 20°C (68°F) in both destinations and fewer crowds than summer, when the Algarve especially can reach 28 to 30°C (82 to 86°F) and feel considerably busier.
Yes. A separate rental car is included on each leg, one for your 14 nights . Pick up and drop off on arrival and departure at each airport
Both rental cars include basic third-party liability insurance. Depending on the rental company, a collision damage waiver (CDW) may already be included, but most rentals still carry a mandatory excess. We always recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level available at pickup. This can be arranged through the Portugal Getaways team when booking.
Please note that a Road Accident Contribution (RAC) fee of €2 per day applies to all rental cars in Madeira from 1 July 2026. This fee is paid directly to the rental company and is not included in the package price.
Madeira's main highways, known locally as the VE road network, are modern and well maintained, with frequent tunnels through the mountains. Away from these main roads, routes can be narrow, steep, and winding, especially in the interior and along the older coastal roads. Traffic drives on the right, the same as mainland Portugal. Mountain roads can see fog or low cloud, so allow extra time in those conditions. Most first-time visitors manage the main routes without difficulty, but the interior roads reward a cautious pace.
With your own car for those two weeks, the castle town of Silves, the hill town of Monchique, the cliffs at Sagres, and an optional day trip to Seville, Spain are all within reach. Not every day requires driving, many travelers spend some days walking the seafront promenade and visiting the local market instead. All suggestions are optional.
With your own car in Madeira, sights such as Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, the mountain village of Curral das Freiras, and the village of Santana with its traditional triangular houses are all within reach. Central Funchal itself does not require a car, so many travelers save driving days for these further destinations and use buses, taxis, or the cable car for day-to-day life in town. All suggestions are optional.
No. City taxes are not included in the package price and are paid directly at the hotel in both the Algarve and Madeira, up to a cap of 7 nights consecutive nights in each destination.
Breakfast is not included by default but can be added during the booking process (if available). Complimentary breakfast can be prioritized on request.
Yes. The package price is based on two travelers sharing a room. Solo travelers pay a single supplement, which applies across both the Algarve and Madeira legs. Contact the Portugal Getaways team directly and we'll make it easy.
An apartment with a kitchenette on the Algarve coast and in Funchal, Madeira are used for this package. The exact properties depend on availability for your dates. If you have a preference for either leg, tell the Portugal Getaways team when you request a quote and we'll do our best to match it. The package price depends on the accommodation selected.
Yes. Portugal, including the Algarve and Madeira, is consistently ranked among the safest places in Europe, with no active conflicts and low rates of violent crime. Standard precautions apply, keep an eye on belongings in busy market areas. Travel advisories can change, so it is the traveler's responsibility to confirm the current advisory for Portugal before departure.
US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for Portugal for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, so this 28-night trip falls well within that limit. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is not yet mandatory for visa-exempt travelers entering the Schengen Area, including Portugal, when it becomes mandatory we will notify you in advance.
⚠️ Please note that entry into the United Kingdom requires an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for many visa-exempt travellers, including eligible U.S. and Canadian citizens. If your itinerary includes arrival in, departure from, or a transit or layover through the United Kingdom, you may be required to obtain an ETA before travel.
Entry requirements can change, and it is the traveler's responsibility to verify current visa, passport, and transit requirements before departure through their government's official travel advisory website.
The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your travel date. Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued.
