Day 1Arrival in Lagos & Check-in
Welcome to the Algarve! Airport transfers on arrival and departure are included. If you'd like an early hotel check-in to start exploring sooner, contact the Portugal Getaways team to arrange this in advance. This 6-night Algarve trip is based in Lagos, a former fishing port on Portugal's southern coast with a walled old town, sandy beaches, and some of the region's most photographed cliffs just outside it.
Suggestion for the day: Lagos Old Town
Lagos was one of Portugal's key departure ports during the Age of Discovery in the 15th century, and its old town still sits inside a stretch of the original defensive walls. The streets are narrow and largely pedestrian, lined with 16th and 17th-century buildings that now hold cafes, shops, and small restaurants rather than the merchants and sailors they once served.
Praca Gil Eanes, the main square, named after the navigator who was the first European to sail past Cape Bojador on the West African coast, a milestone in Portuguese exploration
Igreja de Santo António, a small church known for its Baroque interior, almost entirely covered in gilded woodwork
The marina, a good spot for dinner on your first night, with views over the boats and out toward the river mouth

The Algarve isn't as well known for wine as regions like the Alentejo or the Douro, which is part of what makes this tour interesting; you're tasting something most visitors never think to look for here.
By minivan, the tour visits a local Algarve winery for a tasting of 3 wines paired with a tapas plate of cheese and sausage, with a look at the production room and wooden barrel room where the wine actually ages. The tour includes free time in Silves, once the Moorish capital of the region before the Portuguese reconquest in the 13th century; its red sandstone castle still overlooks the town today. The drive back to Lagos passes through countryside dotted with orange groves and cork trees, both major Algarve exports.

Suggestion for the day: Ponta da Piedade
Ponta da Piedade is the headland that shows up in most photos of Lagos, golden limestone cliffs carved by the sea into arches, caves, and small coves, about 3km (2mi) from central Lagos. It's reachable on foot, by bike, or a short taxi ride. A lighthouse marks the point where the cliffs meet the open Atlantic.
A paved clifftop path runs along the top with viewpoints down into the rock formations, no boat needed to see the shapes and colors that make this stretch of coast distinctive. For a different angle, small boats run short trips from the base of the cliffs directly into the grottoes, weather permitting.

This boat tour covers Ponta da Piedade and the Costa de Lagos from the water, the same cliffs and grottoes from Day 3, seen from a completely different vantage point, with time along the way for swims in open water rather than from a beach. The crew shares background on the coastline's geology, history, and the fishing culture that shaped Lagos long before tourism did. Lunch is traditional roast chicken, served on board once the skipper anchors in a sheltered spot, with drinks included during the meal.

Free Day in Algarve
Suggestion for the day: Sagres and Cabo de São Vicente
Sagres sits about 35km (22mi) from Lagos, roughly a 40-minute drive, at the far southwestern corner of Portugal. In the 15th century, this stretch of coast was central to Portugal's early voyages of exploration, and Fortaleza de Sagres, a clifftop fortress still standing today, is tied to that history.
A few kilometers further is Cabo de São Vicente, considered continental Europe's most southwesterly point. A lighthouse marks the spot where the land simply stops, with sheer cliffs dropping into the Atlantic on three sides, before the ocean opens up all the way to the Americas.

Day 6
Free Day in Algarve
Suggestion for the day: Seville, Spain, or Benagil Cave
Seville is a popular day trip from the Algarve despite the distance, home to the Alcazar palace, Seville Cathedral, and a city center built around centuries of Moorish and Spanish history layered on top of each other. It's a longer drive across the border into Spain, contact the Portugal Getaways team for current timing and to arrange transport or a guided tour.
Closer to home, the Benagil Cave is probably the single most photographed spot on the Algarve coast, a sea cave with a partial roof open to the sky, letting sunlight in over the water below. It's typically visited by boat or kayak from Benagil beach or nearby towns like Carvoeiro, roughly an hour's drive east of Lagos.
