Frequently Asked Questions
The Portugal Getaways Algarve all-inclusive package includes round-trip flights, 7 nights at an all-inclusive resort in the Algarve close to the beach, all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and selected alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day, and a rental car picked up at Faro Airport for the full duration of the stay. All taxes and fees related to the booking are included.
All-inclusive covers all meals throughout your stay: breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the resort restaurants. Selected alcoholic drinks including beer, wine, and standard cocktails are included throughout the day during bar opening hours. Premium spirits, specialty cocktails, and bottled wines from the wine list are typically at additional cost. Spa treatments, room service, and activities outside the resort are not included.
A rental car is included for the full 7 nights, picked up at Faro Airport on arrival. You drive directly from the airport to your resort. The standard vehicle is a compact manual car. Automatic transmission is available on request at an additional cost. You will need a valid Canadian or US passport and driver's license at pickup. The resort has parking included throughout your stay.
The rental car includes basic third-party liability insurance. Depending on the rental company, a collision damage waiver (CDW) may already be included, but most rentals still carry a mandatory excess. We always recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level available at pickup. This can be arranged through the Portugal Getaways team.
No. The A22 Via do Infante, the main motorway running the length of the Algarve, is free to use. There are no tolls within the region. Tolls apply if you leave the Algarve: the A2 motorway from Lisbon to the Algarve has tolls on the approach, and the Ponte Internacional do Guadiana has a toll if you enter the Algarve from Spain. For a day trip to Seville, tolls will apply on the Spanish side of the border. Toll costs for routes outside the Algarve are not included in the package price.
The package includes 4-star and 5-star all-inclusive resorts in the Algarve, as upgrades, located in or near Albufeira and Alvor. Not all properties are directly on the beach. The Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort is beachfront in Alvor. The other properties are in the Albufeira area within easy reach of the beach by foot or shuttle. The package price varies depending on the resort selected. Some properties are family-oriented.
No. City taxes are not included and are paid directly at the hotel.
The rental car is the most practical way to explore the Algarve. Uber® has limited availability outside the main resort towns. Public buses connect the main towns but are infrequent and do not serve most beaches, sea caves, or viewpoints. For day trips to the western Algarve, Seville, or Tangier, the car is essential. Taxis are available but expensive for longer distances.
A day trip to Seville is not included but can be arranged as an optional add-on. Seville is approximately 2 hours from Albufeira by car via the A22 and Spanish motorways. It is one of the most popular day trips from the Algarve and well worth the drive for the Cathedral, the Real Alcazar, and the Barrio Santa Cruz. Contact the Portugal Getaways team and we can include a guided Seville excursion in your itinerary.
Yes. Tangier is reachable by ferry from Tarifa in Spain, approximately 2 hours 30 minutes from Albufeira by car plus the 35-minute ferry crossing. A guided day trip to Tangier can be arranged as an optional add-on. Contact the Portugal Getaways team before booking and we will include it in your quote. US and Canadian passport holders do not need a visa for Morocco for stays of up to 90 days.
With a rental car the whole Algarve coastline is within reach. The sea caves at Benagil are best explored by boat tour from Carvoeiro or Albufeira. The cliffs at Ponta da Piedade near Lagos are a 45-minute drive west. Cabo de São Vicente, the southwesternmost point of Portugal, is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Albufeira. Praia de Marinha near Lagoa is one of the most photographed beaches on the coast. All suggestions are optional.
Yes. The Portugal Getaways team can build a combined itinerary that includes the Algarve all-inclusive stay alongside nights in Lisbon, Porto, or Madeira. A popular combination is 7 nights all-inclusive in the Algarve followed by 3 nights in Lisbon with private transfers or a rental car. Contact the team with your preferred dates and group size and we will put together a tailored proposal.
Spring (April to June) offers temperatures of 18°C to 24°C (64°F to 75°F), fewer crowds, and the best conditions for exploring the coastline and inland towns. Summer (July to August) reaches 28°C to 35°C (82°F to 95°F) and is the busiest period, ideal for beach and water sports. Autumn (September to October) stays warm at 22°C to 27°C (72°F to 81°F), the sea is at its warmest, and the crowds thin after mid-September. Winter (November to March) averages 14°C to 18°C (57°F to 64°F) but most all-inclusive resorts are closed during this period.
Yes to all three. The Portugal Getaways team can add nights at the resort, include Lisbon, Porto, or Madeira, or adjust the itinerary. If you are travelling solo, the package price is based on two travelers sharing a room and a single supplement applies. You can check solo pricing by changing the number of guests from 2 to 1 in the booking calendar before clicking See Dates and Prices. Contact the Portugal Getaways team directly and we will make it easy.
The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your travel date. Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued. Travel insurance with cancellation cover is strongly recommended.
For general support, contact the Portugal Getaways team at our regular number, available every day from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern Time. Outside office hours, an emergency number is provided in your trip documents. For local emergencies in Portugal, dial 112.
