Today’s linear walking route begins at your accommodation and takes you on a scenic journey through the heart of the Douro region, ending in the charming village of Barqueiros.

The first stretch of the trail runs alongside the Douro River and the railway line, offering a tranquil and authentic setting that captures the essence of the region. As you continue toward Vila Jusã, you'll come across the Church of São Martinho, a notable example of local religious heritage.

Further along the path, you’ll encounter one of the route’s most symbolic landmarks: the Senhor do Cotinho—a 19th-century devotional painting carved into the rock known as Dancedo. Positioned beside the road, this unique feature marks the boundary between the municipalities of Mesão Frio and Baião, blending seamlessly into the landscape and reflecting the community’s enduring faith and spiritual connection with nature.

The walk concludes at the Casa do Povo of Barqueiros, a welcoming space that embodies the local atmosphere and offers the perfect place to rest and reflect.

Throughout the walk, you’ll be surrounded by the Douro’s iconic terraced vineyards, a testament to human ingenuity and resilience in adapting to the region’s mountainous terrain. The day begins with a transfer to Pinhão, the starting point of today’s trail. As you will be changing accommodation, your luggage will remain securely in the vehicle until check-in later in the day.

The hike starts near the Pinhão Railway Station, a remarkable 19th-century building adorned with traditional azulejos, and follows a circular route through the Douro Demarcated Region and the Alto Douro Wine Region, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The path winds through the narrow streets of local villages toward Casal de Loivos, where sweeping views of the Pinhão and Douro rivers unfold, framed by historic wine estates renowned for producing Port wine. Here, a short detour leads to one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Douro Valley—considered among the world’s most beautiful landscapes.

The route continues past the Chapel of Senhora da Fonte Santa, home to a striking Baroque altarpiece, before reaching the ancient fortified settlement of Circa. Along the way, you will visit the iconic Quinta do Bomfim, an emblematic winery, to enjoy a tasting of regional wines followed by a traditional picnic amid the vineyards.
