   Step back in time and explore the vibrant tapestry of Funchal, the heart of Madeira Island! Nestled amidst lush hills and overlooking the vast Atlantic, this city boasts a rich history dating back to the early 15th century. Founded by Portuguese explorers, Funchal quickly blossomed into a cosmopolitan center, a vital stop on trade routes between Europe and the New World. Today, Funchal exudes Portuguese charm, offering a captivating blend of its historical legacy and lively modern spirit.

   • Fortaleza de São Tiago (São Tiago Fort): Cap off your day with a visit to the Fortaleza de São Tiago, a 17th-century fort offering stunning ocean views. Explore the ramparts and learn about Funchal's maritime history.
2. Day 2 Walking Wine Tour in Funchal (Included)

   • Traditional Delicacies: Start with a visit to an innovative project preserving Madeira’s culture, followed by elegant chocolates at a renowned factory and exceptional old wines from a top producer.
   • Local Flavors: Sample delectable cookies and sweets at a traditional factory, enjoy black scabbard fillet sandwiches or fresh tuna at a local bar, and explore Funchal's lively farmer's market.
   • Gourmet Experience: Learn about spices and ingredients at a typical grocery store and savor the famous Poncha. End the tour with a delightful dinner at a charming restaurant in the old town, and unwind at “Armazém do Mercado” with coffee, tea, wine, and music.

   The meeting point for this tour is at Infante Roundabout right next to the “H&M” store. 

3. Day 3 Safari with Madeira Table Wine Tasting & Snacks (Included)

   Leave the city behind and head to Madeira’s west side, where you’ll experience the stunning Serra d’Água valley and ascend to the Encumeada Pass at 1,000 meters for breathtaking views of the North and South coasts, including Ribeira Brava and São Vicente valleys.

   Tour Highlights:

   • Spectacular Scenery: Enjoy a photo stop with panoramic views at Encumeada Pass.
   • Off-Road Adventure: Descend into UNESCO's Laurissilva forest and explore Madeira's unique flora and fauna in an open-roof Land Rover.
   • Wine Tasting: Visit northern vineyards for a tasting of Madeira Table Wines paired with delicious snacks.

4. Day 4 Flavors of Madeira - Local Dinner Experience (Included)

   Food is a key part of any travel experience, and Madeira offers a feast for the senses with its fresh ingredients and unique flavors. From succulent seafood and traditional Espetadas to delightful pastries, Madeira’s culinary scene is exceptional.

   Join us for a unique food and wine tour starting with a pick-up from Funchal city center, Lido, or Caniço.

   Miradouro das Neves: Enjoy stunning views of Funchal and the Ilhas Desertas while tasting Madeira wine. This picturesque spot is a perfect introduction to the island.

   Unique Garden and Dinner Experience: Visit a private home in the Funchal hills for a garden tour and a three-course dinner prepared by local chef André. Savor traditional Madeiran dishes like Espetada, accompanied by Portuguese wine, while enjoying breathtaking views of Funchal Bay. Vegetarian and vegan options are available upon request.

5. Day 5 Madeira Poncha Tasting & Class (Included)

   It's Poncha time! Join us for a unique tour across four hidden bars where you'll experience the true Madeirense lifestyle and meet friendly locals.

   Tour Highlights:

   • Miradouro Pinaculo: Start with stunning views and a sip of Poncha while learning its history.
   • Camacha: Explore authentic Poncha bars in this charming mountain town. Enjoy the original Pescador Poncha and help prepare your own with Senhor Agostinho’s guidance.
   • Colorful Bars: Taste Poncha Maracujá with local snacks at a vibrant spot.
   • Finale: Choose your favorite Poncha flavor at a popular local venue, with an option to enjoy delicious local food (not included).

   We’ll return to Funchal, and we're happy to suggest more great Poncha bars if you’re up for more with your new friends.

6. Day 6 Sunset Tour with Food & Drinks (Included)

   Admire the sunset from Madeira’s third-highest peak, Pico do Arieiro, on this shared tour from Funchal. After pickup from your accommodation, enjoy a scenic spot in the mountains for food and drinks, followed by stunning sunset views from 1,818 meters above sea level.

   Savor a variety of drinks while taking in the hues of the sunset and, after dark, experience serene stargazing.

   Menu Highlights:

   • Food: Traditional bread, crackers, toast, French fries, chicken, and quiche (menu varies daily)
   • Drinks: Red, white, rosé, and green wines, beer, Poncha, plus non-alcoholic options like Coca-Cola and orange juice

7. Day 7 Free Day in Madeira Island

   

   Suggestion for the day: Levada Adventure (Hiking)

   Madeira, the "hiker's paradise," offers diverse trails for all levels. Explore levadas (ancient irrigation canals) or scenic paths. The south boasts gentle walks, while the north offers challenging treks through majestic mountains and waterfalls.

   Recommended Hikes:

   Levada do Balcões: This moderate trail winds through Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

   • Distance: 7 km (4.3 mi)
   • Duration: 4-5 hours

   Levada das 25 Fontes: This moderate trail leads you to waterfalls, crystal-clear pools, and lush Laurissilva forest. 

   • Distance: 6 km (3.7 mi)
   •  Duration: 3-4 hours

   Vereda do Fanal: This magical moderate trail leads you through an ancient forest teeming with endemic flora, including the beautiful Laurissilva laurel trees.

   •  Distance: 6 km (3.7 mi)
   •  Duration: 3-4 hours

   Ponta de São Lourenço: The most popular trail is the PR8 Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço which offers stunning views of the coastline and the surrounding mountains.
