An International Driving Permit is not mandatory but can be useful as a backup.

Fátima is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world, drawing over six million visitors a year. The candlelight procession held every evening is open to all visitors regardless of faith. Many travelers visit Fátima for its history, architecture, and the atmosphere of the Sanctuary rather than for religious reasons. It is worth the visit either way.
