Portugal with Kids: Island Resort & Nature Tours

The package includes round-trip flights, 8 nights at a family-friendly all-inclusive resort in Madeira, meals and drinks at the resort, a rental car for the whole stay, picked up and dropped off at Madeira Airport, and 3 family tours:

• Tuk Tuk and Toboggan Tour, with hotel pick-up
• Jeep Tour and Levada Walk, with hotel pick-up
• Whale and Dolphin Watching by catamaran, from Funchal Marina

Booking taxes and fees are included. The local tourist tax is paid at the resort.

Yes, round-trip flights are included. The package price varies depending on your departure airport. Other departure cities are available on request. Contact the Portugal Getaways team before booking to discuss departure options. Checked luggage is not always included and depends on the airline and fare type. Confirm what is included and add luggage during the booking process. Seat selection and cabin class upgrades can be arranged as paid add-ons, subject to availability.

• Meals at the resort buffet and, typically, the à la carte restaurants. Some specialty restaurants may be excluded or charge a supplement.
• Drinks, including alcoholic drinks for adults, during bar opening hours. Some premium drinks may not be included.

• Tuk Tuk and Toboggan Tour: about 1 hour 30 minutes in the morning, with hotel pick-up, up to 6 people per tuk-tuk. A tuk-tuk takes you up to Monte, you ride down in a traditional wicker toboggan, and the tuk-tuk brings you back.
• Jeep Tour and Levada Walk: about 4 hours in the morning, with hotel pick-up, in groups of up to 10. The jeep explores the southeast coast and Camacha, with an easy 45-minute levada walk.
• Whale and Dolphin Watching: about 3 hours by catamaran, morning or afternoon, from the meeting point at Funchal Marina, in groups of up to 70.

Tour dates are confirmed after booking. Sightings of whales and dolphins are frequent but cannot be guaranteed.

Children's prices depend on their age and the room type. Enter the number of adults and children in the booking calendar to see the price for your family. For details on family rooms, age limits and the tours with small children, contact the Portugal Getaways team.

The rental car is included for your whole stay, picked up at Madeira Airport on arrival and returned there before your flight home. The standard vehicle is a compact car with manual transmission; a larger car or an automatic can be added at an extra cost. Child seats can be requested through the Portugal Getaways team. At pick-up you need your driver's license and passport.

The rental car includes basic insurance. Most rentals still carry an excess, so for Madeira's mountain roads we recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level. The Portugal Getaways team can arrange this for you.

The resorts in this package have parking on site or nearby. Parking is not always free, and parking costs are not included in the package price. Please check the parking conditions during the booking process. If free parking is a priority for you, contact the Portugal Getaways team: we will prioritize resorts with free parking and send you a quote.

The main coastal roads and expressways are well maintained. Inland and in the mountains, roads become narrower, steeper and more winding, so allow extra time. An automatic car makes the hills easier.

No. Unlike mainland Portugal, Madeira has no toll roads.

With the car, you can visit the natural lava pools of Porto Moniz on the north coast, the traditional thatched houses of Santana and the viewpoints at Pico do Arieiro, which has short, easy walks. In Funchal, the Farmers' Market and the old town are easy with children. These suggestions are optional and not included.

The tourist tax is paid at the resort at check-in or check-out and is not included in the package or in the all-inclusive plan. In Madeira it is about €2 per person per night, up to 7 nights. Rates may change.

Yes. The Portugal Getaways team can add nights, change the resort, upgrade the car, add more tours or add Lisbon to the trip. Send us your dates and the ages of the children and we will prepare a proposal.

Portugal is consistently ranked among the safest countries in Europe, with no active conflicts and not affected by the current conflicts in Europe or elsewhere. Standard precautions apply in busy tourist areas. US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. ETIAS is not yet mandatory; when it becomes mandatory, the Portugal Getaways team will notify you in advance.

The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your travel date. Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued. Travel insurance with cancellation cover is strongly recommended.
