Sunday: the Rabaçal and 25 Fontes levada walk. Tuesday: Ponta de São Lourenço. Wednesday: Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo. Thursday: Levada do Caldeirão Verde. Each hike runs from about 8:30 AM to 4 PM with an official mountain guide, transport and insurance, as required by Portuguese law.

Yes, for the hikes and the farewell dinner: you are picked up at your hotel in Funchal. For the food and wine walking tour, the meeting point is at the Infante Roundabout in Funchal. Times and meeting points are in your itinerary.

You should be comfortable walking 4 to 6 hours on uneven paths, with some climbs and steps. The Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo hike is the most demanding, at high altitude with many steps. The levada walks are mostly flat but can be narrow, with drops on one side.

Bring hiking boots or trail shoes with good grip, a light rain jacket, layers for the mountains, sunscreen, water and a small backpack. A flashlight is useful for the tunnels on some levadas. A picnic can be added for about €10 to €12.

The entrance to Ponta de São Lourenço costs about €1 per person, paid on the day. Lunch and picnics are not included. Everything else on the hikes, including the guide, transport and insurance, is included.

It is a half-day walk through Funchal, from 9:45 AM to 1 PM, with stops for local food and Madeira wine along the way. It is an easy walk, a nice break between hiking days.

The farewell typical dinner on Friday is included. Breakfast depends on the hotel rate you choose, and other meals are not included.
