Four experiences are included: a guided visit and tasting at Quinta da Pacheca and a Douro river boat trip from Pinhão with lunch in the Douro Valley, then a traditional talha wine tasting in Reguengos de Monsaraz and a visit and tasting at Herdade do Esporão in the Alentejo. Hotel pick-up is not included: you drive to each meeting point, and the times and addresses are in your itinerary.

Bairrada sits halfway between the Douro and the Alentejo, so one night here breaks up the longest drive. You stay in a historic hotel inside the Bussaco forest, and Bairrada is known for its sparkling wines, worth trying at dinner.

Monsaraz is a medieval hilltop village overlooking the Alqueva lake. The region is known for megaliths, whitewashed villages, cork forests and wines from local grapes such as Aragonez and Antão Vaz. Three nights give you time to explore it at an easy pace.

Lunch on the Douro boat day is included. Breakfast depends on the hotel rate you choose at booking, and the Portugal Getaways team can prioritize rates that include it. Other meals are not included.

The package includes a standard car, picked up at Porto Airport and returned at Lisbon Airport before your flight home, with the one-way fee included. An automatic or a larger vehicle is available on request at an additional cost. You need a valid driver’s license and passport; an International Driving Permit is not required by Portuguese law, but some rental companies recommend one.

The rental car includes basic insurance. Most rentals still carry an excess, so we recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level. The Portugal Getaways team can arrange this for you.

Tolls are not included in the package. Most Portuguese motorways have electronic tolls, which are charged through the rental car's toll device. You can estimate costs with the Via Verde toll calculator.

The hotels in this package are selected because they have parking on site or nearby. Parking is not always free, and parking costs are not included in the package price. Please check the parking conditions during the booking process. Porto and Lisbon have centrally located hotels. In the Douro Valley you stay in wine country near Régua, and around Monsaraz in rural and wine estate properties, some without an official star rating but chosen for their quality and setting. The Portugal Getaways team can change hotels at an additional cost.

April to June brings green vineyards in the Douro and wildflowers in the Alentejo. September and October are harvest time in the Douro and the best months for wine lovers. Summer is hot, especially in the Alentejo, and winter is quiet with fewer visitors.

The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your original travel date. After that, refunds depend on the suppliers’ cancellation policies and, in most cases, the package becomes non-refundable.

Airline tickets become non-refundable once issued, and any changes or cancellations follow the airline’s fare rules.
