About the Accommodation
The Casa do Comendador is a Rural Tourism unit in the district of São Roque, Island of Pico, Azores.
Oriented towards the triangle of the Azores (the Islands of Pico, Faial and São Jorge), it is situated in an excellent background for your vacations.
In the House you will find a series of comforts, such as: free internet, computers, reading room and library, tft and plasma televisions, amongst others.
You can be lodged in one of our 14 beds (6 twin rooms and 2 double rooms).
The spacious and lighted rooms breathe sobriety and refinement. There’s peace and comfort everywhere. An atmosphere of kindness and hospitality is experienced. There are computers and Internet and a reading room. And each room is equipped with plasma TV’s.
From the panoramic balcony I look ahead of me and gaze the magical effect of such light, the enchantment of the beauty of the sea, and in the background the overwhelming beauty of the island of São Jorge.
Located in Rua de Baixo in the village of São Miguel Arcanjo, municipality of São Roque, island of Pico, Casa do Comendador is seigniorial and memorial and it preserves the fine architectonic features of the 19th century.
Past and present are here conjugated as well as ancestry and modernity. I am now aware of what ecological and safe tourism is. In this house the cistern, the lake and the pigsty cohabit with the solar panels; the old bell coexists with the LCD equipments. Everything was improved and changed, including the house of the tenant.
Casa do Comendador keeps its history, having a regular and harmonious display, a huge gate of forged iron, basaltic constructions, squared stone bars, with a significative number of doors and windows, green wood shutters, pine wood floors, coat of arms and other fine details which shows the wealth of its first owner, João Pereira Tomás, from Pico, who returned to his homeland for health reasons, after becoming wealthy in Brazil.
