Lisbon & Algarve with Car: Long Beach Days | 11 Nights

This Portugal Getaways package includes round-trip flights to and from Lisbon, 11 nights of hotel accommodation (3 nights in Lisbon, 7 nights in the Algarve and a last night in Lisbon) and a rental car for the whole trip, picked up and returned at Lisbon Airport. Guided tours, meals, breakfast, parking, tolls and city taxes are not included.

Round-trip flights are included in the package. Other departure cities are available on the calendar or on request. The package price depends on the selected airport. Seat selection, extra baggage, and cabin class upgrades to premium economy, business, or first class are not included in the package price but can be arranged as paid add-ons, subject to availability. Checked luggage is not always included and depends on the airline and fare type in your package. You can confirm what is included and add luggage during the booking process.

Lisbon has the widest choice of flights from North America, which helps keep this package well priced, and you return the rental car where you picked it up. The drive is easy and very doable: about 280 km (173 miles), around 3 hours on the A2 motorway, with service areas on the way for a coffee or lunch stop.

No. In this package the rental car is booked for the whole trip: you pick it up at Lisbon Airport when you land and return it at Lisbon Airport before your flight home. During your nights in Lisbon, the easiest plan is to leave the car parked at the hotel and explore the city on foot or by tram.

The package includes an economy or compact car with manual transmission (standard in Portugal), air conditioning, and unlimited mileage. Automatic transmission cars can be added for an extra fee.

The rental car includes basic third-party liability insurance. Depending on the rental company, a collision damage waiver (CDW) may already be included, but most rentals still carry a mandatory excess. We always recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level available. This can be arranged through the Portugal Getaways team when booking.

US and Canadian citizens can drive in Portugal with their valid home driver's license for short-term visits. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is optional but can be helpful, since it translates your license into Portuguese.

Lisbon Airport to the Algarve is about 275 to 300 km (170 to 185 miles), around 3 hours on the A2 motorway, depending on where your hotel is. The drive back from the Algarve to Lisbon is the same distance. These motorways use electronic tolls, and most rental cars include a toll device that charges automatically. Tolls are not included. Before your trip you will receive a travel checklist with a link to the Via Verde toll calculator, so you can estimate the cost.

The Algarve is easy to drive, with good roads between the coastal towns and parking near most beaches. Lisbon's historic center has narrow, hilly streets and limited parking, so we recommend leaving the car at your hotel and exploring Alfama, Chiado and Baixa on foot or by tram. Lisbon also has good public transportation.

Your hotels have parking on site or nearby, but parking is not always free and the cost is not included in the package price. Hotels in the Algarve often have free parking, while some hotels in Lisbon charge a nightly fee. If free parking is a priority, let the Portugal Getaways team know when booking.

The package includes hotels selected by the Portugal Getaways team, in towns along the Algarve coast and in Lisbon. The exact options for your dates are shown when you click a date in the booking calendar, and the package price depends on the hotels you select. Yes. Extra nights, additional stops like Évora, Sintra, Lagos, Tavira, or Óbidos, hotel upgrades, and guided tours can all be added. Tours can be added during the booking process or later, or just contact the Portugal Getaways team with your preferences and we'll adjust the itinerary accordingly.

Yes, as an optional add-on. A full-day Seville tour with shopping can be added directly when you book, not included in the package price. Contact the Portugal Getaways team to include it in your quote.

Each stop behaves a little differently. Spring and autumn (April to May, September to October) suit Lisbon well, with mild days near 18 to 22°C (64 to 72°F). The Algarve is comfortable nearly year-round, from 16 to 18°C (61 to 64°F) in winter up to 28 to 30°C (82 to 86°F) in summer.

Breakfast is not included by default, but it can be added during the booking process or prioritized on request. 

City taxes are not included and are paid directly at each hotel. Rates vary by municipality and hotel category and are subject to change.

Yes. The package price is based on two travelers sharing a room. Solo travelers pay a single supplement. You can check solo pricing by changing the number of guests from 2 to 1 in the booking calendar before clicking See Dates and Prices, or contact the Portugal Getaways team directly and we will make it easy.

Yes. Portugal is consistently ranked among the safest countries in Europe, with no active conflicts and low rates of violent crime. US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for Portugal for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. ETIAS is not yet mandatory, when it becomes mandatory we will notify you in advance. Entry requirements and travel advisories can change, and it is the traveler's responsibility to confirm current requirements before departure. 

⚠️ Please note that entry into the United Kingdom requires an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for many visa-exempt travellers, including eligible U.S. and Canadian citizens. If your itinerary includes arrival in, departure from, or a transit or layover through the United Kingdom, you are required to obtain an ETA before travel. 

Starting November 3, 2026, all passengers flying to the United States, or connecting through U.S. territory, must hand in a signed declaration at check-in. This applies to U.S. citizens too. It confirms you have not been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the 21 days before your flight. Download the form from the CDC website, fill it in, sign it and date it with your travel date. Passengers without a completed form may be denied boarding, so we recommend arriving at the airport with extra time. Requirements can change, so please check the CDC page before you travel.

The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your travel date. Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued.
