One of the oldest and most established courses in Vilamoura, Pinhal Golf Course offers a round defined by strategy, precision, and variety. Inaugurated in 1976 and originally designed by Frank Pennink, the course was later partially redesigned by Robert Trent Jones in 1985, introducing new challenges while preserving its classic character.

Set within a mature pine woodland, Pinhal combines elements of British and American golf architecture. The layout presents a wide range of hole styles, keeping the round engaging from start to finish. While the terrain is generally flat and walkable, the course places clear emphasis on accuracy, particularly on approach shots. Its small greens demand thoughtful club selection and reward controlled iron play.

Pinhal also allows room for calculated risk. The 17th hole, a par 5 measuring 496 metres from the championship tee, offers an opportunity for birdie or even eagle for golfers willing to challenge the out-of-bounds area on the right, cutting the dogleg and shortening the hole significantly. Water features appear on several holes through ponds and a stream, adding interest without being overly penal for confident players.

Following recent lengthening works, the course remains well balanced for modern equipment while retaining its traditional feel. After the round, the renovated clubhouse provides a relaxed setting to unwind, with panoramic views over the driving range and practice areas.

A distinct change of character appears between the 3rd and 7th holes, where fairways narrow as they wind through pine groves.
