Two wine experiences are included. On day 2, a tasting at Paço do Curutelo near Ponte de Lima, with five wines across two regions, from Vinho Verde to a 20-year-old Tawny Port.

On day 4, a guided visit to Quinta do Val Moreira in the Douro Valley, with the vineyards and cellars, a tasting of three wines with regional snacks and a panoramic boat trip from Pinhão. Both start in the morning, with the meeting point in the hotel lobby.

The package includes a standard car, picked up and returned at Porto Airport. An automatic or a larger vehicle is available on request at an additional cost.

Daily breakfast is included at all hotels. Lunches and dinners are not included, apart from the regional snacks served with the Douro wine tasting.

The package includes wine-country hotels in Ponte de Lima and the Douro Valley, among the vineyards, and a hotel in Porto. Hotels with vineyards are outside the towns, so the rental car is useful there.

No. City taxes are not included and are paid directly at each hotel.

Yes. Roads are well maintained, signage is clear, and traffic is light outside Lisbon. You drive on the right side, the same as in North America. An International Driving Permit is not required by Portuguese law, but some rental companies recommend having one just in case. You need a valid driver's license and passport. 

US and Canadian passport holders do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period in Portugal and the rest of the Schengen Area.

The ETIAS travel authorization is expected to become mandatory, so check whether it applies to your travel dates. Entry rules can change, so please confirm the current requirements with your government’s official travel advisory before departure.

The hotels in this package are selected because they have parking on site or nearby. Parking is not always free, and parking costs are not included in the package price. Please check the parking conditions during the booking process. If free parking is a priority for you, contact the Portugal Getaways team: we will prioritize hotels with free parking and send you a quote.

Tolls are not included in the package. Most Portuguese motorways have electronic tolls, which are charged through the rental car's toll device. You can estimate costs with the Via Verde toll calculator.

The best time is from May to October.

• Summer (June to August): sunny and busy, and the Douro Valley gets very hot in July and August.
• Fall (September to October): harvest season, the best time for wine lovers.
• Winter (November to February): quiet and good value, with more rain and fewer experiences open.

Yes. The package price is based on two travelers sharing one room, and solo travelers pay a single supplement.

The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled at least 14 days before your original travel date. After that, refunds depend on the suppliers’ cancellation policies and, in most cases, the package becomes non-refundable.

Airline tickets become non-refundable once issued, and any changes or cancellations follow the airline’s fare rules.

A $75 per person administration fee applies to all voluntary cancellations. Travel insurance with trip cancellation coverage is strongly recommended. See the Important Information section for full details.
