Suggestion for the day:
- Day Trip to Faial Island (a short ferry trip away): Nicknamed the “Blue Island” for its abundance of blue hydrangeas that cover the island like a heavenly floral blanket in the summer months, Faial Island is also the site of the most recent volcanic eruption in the Azores, which took place along the coast of Capelinhos village in 1957 and almost completely buried the nearby lighthouse. Many people lost their homes and livelihoods as a result of the eruption, a dire situation that prompted the Azorean Refugee Act to be signed in 1958 by JFK, authorizing the emigration of those affected. Simply put: The Capelinhos volcano left behind one of the most emblematic landscapes in the whole world.

Take in the magnificent views at any of the viewpoints around the mountaintop, or if you're feeling adventurous, venture out on one of the many hiking trails that lead down to the lake's edge.
- Thermal Bath at Caldeira Velha: For those of you reading who still don’t quite know exactly what thermal waters are…we are happy to explain a bit more! Thermal waters are heated by a volcano, and thermal pools are usually fed by nearby springs. Caldeira Velha is the only place where you can see the majestic spring “feeding” the luxurious pools, and there’s nothing better than swimming right up to it and receiving an invigorating but relaxing, natural thermal massage. This is just another authentic experience you’ll be able to have while enjoying the Azores! Besides the waterfall pool, Caldeira Velha also has two smaller pools where the water is a bit hotter.
- Visit Furnas: Journey to Furnas and immerse yourself in its myriad attractions, from the serene lake and Pico do Ferro Viewpoint to the unique caldeiras and Terra Nostra Park. Relish local flavors like cozido das Furnas and bolos lêvedos, and experience a fusion of nature and culture that's truly Azorean.

"We had a wonderful time on Pico, Terceira and Sao Miguel. We plan to come back and base out of Pico so we can get to Faial and Sao Jorge in the future. We loved the country, the accommodations and the guides. We also likes how easy it was to get around all the islands and how helpful everyone was. The guides and staff of the hotels (as well as Azores Getaways) went above and beyond the call of duty. The ability to communicate by email was very helpful-we could confirm our excursions and get answers to questions when we had them. "

"We had a great time. We got to 4 of the islands and found the Azores beautiful. The islands are small enough to circle in one day - easy to go from city to village to countryside. Great weather, lovely people."

"From the ticket agents, flight attendants, and the hotels, you ALL provide over-the-top service. Hospitality is a very hard business to be in; and no one to shows any disrespect. I have been on 3 trips to the Azores in 18 months and I plan on visiting again in 2018. I have made friends on Terceira with the owners of O'Cachalote Restaurant and they are very positive people. They feel like family. (They offered to show us Flores on our next trip in 2018) I truly enjoy the plant life and the serene surroundings. The islands seem clean and everyone is friendly and trustworthy. I have been helped many times by people who do not speak English. (sadly this would not happen in America) Our hotels have also been wonderful as well as the people operating them. "

"The Azores is a gorgeous, unusual & unspoiled jewel of a place. It's beauty was amazing to me. The helpfulness & goodness of the people made it even better. It offered many sightseeing & outdoor/hiking experiences. We like that type of thing so we spent alot of time outdoors. The air was clean & many places smelled like flowers altho we couldn't seem to find which flower was so fragrant. It's green reminded me of Ireland. The volcanic mountains & rocks made it very unique. Pastures with rock walls & cows are everywhere. It's food was delicious. I feel like I stepped back in time to a simpler era. "
