The Porto Package with Car from Portugal Getaways includes round-trip flights, 6 nights at one hotel in Porto, no hotel changes, a rental car for the full stay, an expert trip manager, and taxes and fees related to booking. Meals, city taxes at the hotel, and optional excursions are covered separately below.

Yes. Round-trip flights are included in the package. Other departure cities are available on the calendar or on request. The package price depends on the selected airport. Contact the Portugal Getaways team before booking to discuss departure options. Seat selection, extra baggage, and cabin class upgrades to premium economy or business class are not included in the package price but can be arranged as paid add-ons before finalizing your booking, subject to availability.

The included rental is typically a small, manual compact car. Automatic and larger vehicles are available as a paid upgrade, subject to availability. A valid driver's license and passport are required at pickup. Contact the Portugal Getaways team if you'd like to confirm options for your dates.

The rental car includes basic third-party liability insurance. Depending on the rental company, a collision damage waiver (CDW) may already be included, but most rentals still carry a mandatory excess. We always recommend upgrading to the highest insurance level available at pickup. This can be arranged through the Portugal Getaways team when booking or directly with the rental company on arrival.

Yes, tolls apply. Most rental cars include a toll device that charges automatically. Toll costs are not included in the package price. Before your trip, the Portugal Getaways team will send you a travel checklist that includes a tolls calculator from Via Verde so you can estimate costs in advance.

Yes. Porto connects well by train to nearby cities like Braga, Guimarães, and Aveiro, a popular alternative for travelers who'd rather not drive. For destinations like the Douro Valley or Gerês National Park, which are harder to reach by train, guided tours are a good substitute for a rental car. Contact the Portugal Getaways team if you'd like a version of this package built around train travel and tours instead of a rental car.

• Douro Valley: a UNESCO World Heritage site of terraced vineyards and Port wine, with key stops at Peso da Régua (100km/62mi, 1.5-2 hours), Pinhão (120km/75mi, 2-2.5 hours), and Vila Real (110km/68mi, roughly 2 hours). A river cruise is also available as an optional add-on.

• Gerês National Park: 1.5 to 2 hours from Porto, Portugal's only national park, known for mountains, waterfalls, and natural swimming pools.

• Braga and Guimarães: Braga has the country's oldest cathedral and the Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary. Guimarães, about 1 hour away, is considered the birthplace of Portugal.

• Aveiro: known for its canals, colorful Moliceiro boats, and Art Nouveau architecture, an easy day trip by car.

Santiago de Compostela is not included in the package price. It's available as an optional excursion at additional cost, since it's a longer drive across the border into Spain. Contact the Portugal Getaways team if you'd like it added to your itinerary.

Porto works well most of the year, though it's one of the rainier parts of Portugal, especially compared to the south. Spring (March to May) is comfortable for driving and sightseeing, generally 14 to 20°C (57 to 68°F). Summer (June to August) is warmest, around 20 to 28°C (68 to 82°F), and the best season to see the Douro's vineyards in full leaf. Autumn (September to October), during the grape harvest, stays mild, near 16 to 23°C (61 to 73°F). Winter (November to February) is cooler and wetter, typically 8 to 14°C (46 to 57°F).

Hotels for this package range from 3-star to 5-star, and are not always in the historic center, some sit across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia or in neighborhoods like Boavista, so a short drive may be needed to reach the main sights. Parking is generally available at hotels in this package, but it's not always free and is not included in the package price. Costs and availability vary by property. Yes. Portugal is consistently ranked among the safest destinations in Europe, with no active conflicts and low rates of violent crime. US and Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. ETIAS is not yet mandatory, when it becomes mandatory we will notify you in advance. It's the traveler's responsibility to confirm current requirements before departure.
