Porto: Highlights Tour with Douro Visit

Porto Highlights Walking Tour (day 2, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM or 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM): A guided 3-hour walk through Porto's UNESCO-listed historic center covering the Clérigos Church, São Bento Train Station, the Sé Cathedral, the Fernandina Wall, and the Ribeira waterfront, finishing with a crossing of the Luís I Bridge. No hotel pickup. Meeting point: Gomes Teixeira Square, 4050-526, near the lion's fountain.

Tapas and Vinho Verde Tour (day 3, 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM): A guided food tour through Porto's most authentic tascas starting at Mercado do Bolhão. Includes 15 traditional petiscos, visits to a classic tavern and two confeitarias, and 4 glasses of Vinho Verde. Filling enough to serve as a full lunch. Come with an empty stomach. No hotel pickup. Meeting point: main entrance of Mercado do Bolhão, Rua Formosa 322, 4000-252.

Douro Valley Full Day Tour (day 4, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM): A full day in the world's oldest demarcated wine region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Includes visits and tastings at three prestigious vineyards, a 1-hour Douro River cruise, and lunch at a winery, all with a professional guide and air-conditioned minivan. Hotel pickup included.

No. All three included experiences have transport arranged. The Porto Highlights Walking Tour and the Tapas and Vinho Verde Tour have meeting points within walking distance of all hotels in this package. The Douro Valley tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off. Airport transfers on arrival and departure are included. Porto's historic center is compact and walkable. A car is not needed for this trip.

The package includes 4 and 5-star hotels, as upgrades, all selected for their location in Porto's historic center within walking distance of both tour meeting points. The package price varies depending on the hotel selected.  Properties are not always in the city center but are close enough that most sights and the tour meeting points are reachable on foot. Exact options are shown when you click a date in the booking calendar.

Yes. If you prefer to explore the Douro Valley independently, Portugal has a scenic train line from Porto São Bento or Campanhã stations that follows the river through the valley. The journey to Pinhão takes approximately 2 hours and is one of the most scenic train rides in Europe. The included Douro Valley tour is a more comprehensive experience with vineyard visits, a river cruise, and lunch included, but the independent train option is a popular alternative for travelers who prefer to explore at their own pace. Contact the Portugal Getaways team and we will advise on both options.

Yes. If one of the three included experiences does not suit your interests or physical ability, contact the Portugal Getaways team before booking and we will discuss alternatives. Some tours can be swapped for a different experience in Porto or a day trip to a nearby destination. We will do our best to adjust the programme to fit your preferences.

All three included experiences are light to moderate and suitable for most fitness levels. The Porto Highlights Walking Tour covers cobblestone streets and some hillside terrain over 3 hours. Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended. The Tapas and Vinho Verde Tour is a leisurely walk between tascas with regular stops. The Douro Valley tour involves light walking at vineyard visits and is not physically demanding. If you have specific mobility concerns, contact the Portugal Getaways team before booking.

Spring (April to June) offers mild temperatures around 17°C to 22°C (63°F to 72°F), fewer crowds, and lush green scenery in the Douro Valley. Summer (July to August) reaches 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F), the busiest and most expensive period with longer days and festival season in the city. Autumn (September to October) is one of the best windows, with warm temperatures around 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), the grape harvest in the Douro Valley, and fewer tourists than summer. Winter (November to March) averages 10°C to 14°C (50°F to 57°F), quieter, significantly more affordable, and ideal for the food tour and wine experiences when the city belongs to locals.

Yes. The package price is based on two travelers sharing a room. Solo travelers pay a single supplement. You can check solo pricing by changing the number of guests from 2 to 1 in the booking calendar before clicking See Dates and Prices. Porto is part of Portugal, consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in Europe for travelers, with no active conflicts and not affected by the current conflicts in Europe or elsewhere. Standard precautions apply in busy tourist areas. Canadian passport holders do not currently need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. ETIAS is not yet mandatory. 

The land portion of your package is refundable if cancelled before your travel date in accordance with the Portugal Getaways cancellation terms (14 days). Airfare is non-refundable from the moment it is issued. Travel insurance with cancellation cover is strongly recommended.
