We begin the evening in the heart of Alfama, where fado is sung the way it has been for generations. The room darkens, candles glow, and the first notes of the Portuguese guitar—with its twelve strings and unmistakable tone—fill the tavern. Voice and guitar intertwine, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in playful challenge, creating the intimate atmosphere that defines Lisbon’s most iconic music.
Just as tradition dictates, the singers choose each fado in the moment, guided by emotion and the energy of the room—an authentic expression of stories, longing, and saudade.
