About the Experience

It is an adventure trail, where sometimes we have to overcome some small obstacles, including shrubs and small fences. No doubt that we will be compensated by the breathtaking landscapes that we will find along the way.

This course was elaborated and mapped by Aventour guides, after studies and demarcation of land. Since it is an old path that shepherds used for grazing, the progress, in some points, is in the pastureland. It is, certainly, a rare and beautiful walking tour. You see all the islands of the Central Group permanently, as well as the steep cliffs that characterize the north coast of the island.

In the first part of the tour we will go to Sombrante, the name they give to this place, because of the view spot to Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo. At this point we will be at 780 meters altitude with a splendid view to this fajã.

The second point to go by is Pico das Ovelhas, at 760 meters above sea level where we will see the lagoons of Fajã Cubres and Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo as well as the other islands of the Azorean central group.

The view over Fajã dos Cubres and Caldeira de Santo Cristo are the highest postcard moment now available to all of those who go with us to this lost paradise.

Along the walk we can see a variety of endemic plants existing on these lands and, luckily, have a glimpse of wild goats that populate the northern slopes and cows which give color to the landscape.

We finish this tour at the sightseeing of Fajã dos Cubres, with a view over the North Coast of the island of São Jorge.
