Arrival in the Algarve, Portugal & Drive to Córdoba

Welcome to the Algarve! Begin your adventure by picking up your car rental, and set out on a scenic drive towards Cordoba in Spain, covering 346 kilometers (215 miles) in just over 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Once in Córdoba, here is our suggestion for the day:

  • Enjoy a leisurely Spanish lunch at a local restaurant. Be sure to try some traditional Andalucian dishes like salmorejo, a cold tomato soup, and flamenquín, a tasty ham and cheese wrapped in pork.
  • Visit the iconic Mezquita-Catedral, an architectural marvel that blends Islamic and Christian influences. Explore the stunning horseshoe arches and serene courtyard of the mosque.

Suggestion for the day:

  • Head to the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, a royal palace with beautiful gardens, Roman mosaics, and centuries of history.
  • Spend your afternoon at the beautiful and serene gardens of the Palacio de Viana, where you can explore 12 different courtyards with diverse plants and flowers.
  • In the evening, wander along the Roman Bridge, which is beautifully illuminated at night, providing a picturesque view of the city.

Check out from Cordoba and embark on a 2-hour drive to Malaga, your gateway to the Costa del Sol, covering approximately 168 kilometers (about 104 miles).

Once in Malaga, here is our suggestion for the day:

  • Start your adventure with a visit to the Alcazaba, a historical fortress with stunning architecture and panoramic views of the city.
  • Stroll along the famous Calle Larios, a pedestrian street with shops and cafes, and head to the Plaza de la Constitución for a taste of Malaga's vibrant atmosphere.

 

Suggestion for the day:

  • After breakfast, drive to the nearby town of Ronda, famous for its dramatic cliffs, historic bullring, and the Puente Nuevo bridge.
  • Visit the picturesque white villages ("pueblos blancos") of the region, such as Mijas or Frigiliana, with their narrow streets and beautiful architecture.
  • Return to Malaga for a leisurely walk along the Malagueta Beach and enjoy a delightful seafood dinner at a beachfront restaurant.

 

Depart from Malaga and embark on a 2-hour and 30-minute drive covering approximately 210 kilometers (about 130 miles) to Seville, where you'll enjoy a 3-night stay.

Once in Seville, here is our suggestion for the day:

  • Once in Seville, explore Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Don't miss the opportunity to climb the Giralda Tower for breathtaking views of the city.
  • Experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Triana neighborhood, known for its lively tapas bars and flamenco performances.

Suggestion for the day:

  • Explore the magnificent Alcázar of Seville, a stunning palace complex with beautiful gardens and intricate Moorish architecture.
  • Visit the Plaza de España, a grand square adorned with colorful tiles, intricate bridges, and a central fountain.
  • Watch an authentic flamenco show in one of Seville's renowned tablaos.

Suggestion for the day:

  • Visit the beautiful Maria Luisa Park, a tranquil oasis with lush greenery, fountains, and charming walkways. 
  • Explore the Barrio Santa Cruz, the historic Jewish quarter of Seville.

The drive from Seville to the Algarve will take approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, covering around 200 kilometers (approximately 124 miles).

  • From Seville, embark on a scenic journey southward, passing through the picturesque town of El Rocío with its unique marshlands, continuing to the historic city of Huelva, before crossing the border and making your way to the beautiful Algarve region.
  • Along the way, make a suggested stop at the charming town of Tavira, known for its beautiful architecture and historic charm.
  • Relax at one of the stunning beaches of the Algarve, such as Praia da Rocha or Praia de Alvor.
